Damian Winterburn, Partner

Damian Winterburn is the Real Estate Advisory lead partner for Deloitte Australia and responsible for managing Deloitte Real Estate, a specialist real estate team within Deloitte.

Damian started his career in property more than 15 years ago, working on the acquisition, due-diligence and disposal of development projects for a number of major developers including such groups as Pradella, Mirvac and FKP Ltd.

Damian went on to establish a project management company that oversaw the development and delivery of over 100 property projects in QLD and NSW. During this period Damian acted as Senior Development Manager for over 30 projects ranging from residential land subdivisions, apartments, townhouses, child care centres, and retail.

Damian also spent four years in the USA as Managing Director of a property investment and development business on behalf of the Forrester Family (Founders of FKP Ltd), which was involved in the development and ownership of a mixture of commercial, seniors housing and residential projects. During this period he also worked closely with Macquarie Capital in the due-diligence of over $1.4bn in real estate assets, successfully completing over $150m in property transactions.

Prior to joining Deloitte, Damian founded Capland Real Estate Advisors, a national corporate real estate advisory business, advising on over $2bn in assets, including several large scale mixed use, office, retail, and residential projects. Roles included due-diligence, value optimisation, arranging debt and equity, project delivery and managing acquisition or divestment.

Damian holds a degree in Property Economics from QUT. He is, and has been, an active committee member in a number of key organisations including: UDIA, PCA, Urban Land Institute, Royal Institute of Charters Surveyors, U.S. Green Building Council, National Association of Home Builders, National Investment Centre, and American Senior Housing Association. Damian is also a board member of Common Ground Queensland which is a not for profit that provides and manages housing for formerly homeless and low income persons.

Cameron Chatwood, Partner

Cameron Chatwood is a partner in our Real Estate Advisory division.

Cameron has more than 20 years’ experience in the property industry in Australia, working predominantly in property strategy, valuation and real estate consultancy across a broad range of property sectors including residential, commercial, retail, industrial, rural, special purpose and mixed use. Cameron has worked for both the public and private sectors throughout Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria and has been engaged on overseas assignments in Papua New Guinea, New Caledonia and Vanuatu.

Cameron’s areas of specialisation include real estate valuation, feasibility analysis, transaction management, options analysis, highest and best use analysis and distressed asset work out strategy.

Cameron has held senior positions with Ernst & Young’s Real Estate Advisory Services Team (REAS) in Brisbane and Melbourne, and Jones Lang LaSalle’s Advisory team. Within these organisations he was involved in providing real estate consultancy services and worked in conjunction with other divisions including investment sales, project finance advisory, economic advisory, corporate restructuring, business advisory and valuation and business modelling on various high profile projects within Australia.

Cameron holds a Bachelor of Business (Real Property Valuation and Administration) from the University of Queensland, a Master of Planning from the University of Technology Sydney and a Graduate Diploma of Applied Finance and Investment from the Financial Services Institute of Australasia (FINSIA). He is an Associate member of the Australian Property Institute (AAPI) with Certified Practising Valuer (CPV) accreditation, a Member of the Royal Institute of Charted Surveyors (MRICS), a member of the Planning Institute of Australia (MPIA) and a Fellow of the Financial Services Institute of Australasia (F Fin). Cameron is also a Registered Valuer with the Valuers Registration Board of Queensland.

Occupier Advisory

Phil Windus, Director, Occupier advisory

Phil Windus is a Director in the Occupier Advisory group at Deloitte.

Acting on behalf of tenants, Phil has managed lease transactions, delivered property due diligence reports, negotiated sale and leaseback transactions, overseen cost reduction projects and undertaken strategic portfolio reviews for public and private organisations in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth and Brisbane. His clients have included global investment banks, regional Australian banks, manufacturers, mining and engineering companies, educational and government entities and law firms.

Phil has worked within the real estate sector across the US and Australia since 2002. He worked with the Real Estate Advisory division of Ernst & Young in California and New York. His clients included residential developers, real estate investment trusts listed on the NYSE, and opportunity funds with debt and equity positions in global real estate.

As the Senior Development Analyst at the property developer Goodman International, Phil created and reviewed development and acquisition feasibility models, created board papers with development recommendations, and reported on global development statistics. At Grant Samuel, Phil worked within a property advisory capacity, acting as a tenant representative, managing transactions for corporate occupiers, creating corporate real estate strategies, and undertaking portfolio reviews on behalf of tenants.

Phil holds a bachelor of arts in Economics and a bachelor of arts in Philosophy, emphasising in ethics and public policy.

Project and development management

Dean Weintrop, Director, project and development management

Dean Weintrop is responsible for the Project and Development Management division of the company.

He has over 15 years’ experience in both the construction and development industry working in senior roles.

During his career he has been responsible for managing a variety of projects including land subdivisions, apartment projects, mining projects, commercial office buildings, residential developments as well as multiple refurbishments and interior fit-outs.

In addition Dean has had significant experience working directly with banks and financiers as their representative on high profile development projects. In these roles, Dean was responsible for protecting and monitoring the bank’s interests in the projects and has extensive experience in these following areas: verification of all project expenditure, acting as Contract Superintendent for civil and building works and coordination and management of project control meetings involving all stakeholders including the developer and the bank. He has represented Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA) National Australia Bank (NAB) on a variety of complex projects.

Dean has built a broad experience in the property sector having worked on multi-disciplined developments, including civil engineering projects, structural projects, industrial, commercial, retail and residential works. Dean has project and development experience in South Africa, UK and Australia working for a variety of developers, construction companies, government as well as project management firms. He holds a Bachelor degree in Project and Development Management as well as holding an unrestricted QLD Builders License and is a certified practicing project manager through the Project Management Institute of Australia.

Transactions management

James Walsh, Director, Transaction management

James Walsh is responsible for managing the Transaction Management division

He has over 12 years property experience working in development and transactions roles with property development, engineering and advisory companies in Australia and the United States. Within these former roles he has held senior positions overseeing both new acquisitions and due-diligence as well as structuring individual and portfolio divestments.

Throughout James’ career, he has advised clients on the sale and acquisition of over 100 commercial and development  transactions throughout Australia and the USA, as well as having conducted ‘on the ground’ detailed market analysis throughout over 50 cities and towns across both continents. Assets have included a range of development sites, retail centers, office buildings and resorts . He has also successfully acted for a number of property clients to raise equity and mezzanine debt for development projects in major Australian capital cities.

Stephen Hynes, Director, Transaction management

Stephen is a Director in the Real Estate advisory division of Deloitte

Stephen specialises in the negotiation and structuring of Joint Venture between capital, land owners and developers. Stephen has over 20 years’ experience across real estate, development and property finance, prior to Deloitte holding senior operational roles in Lend Lease and Macquarie.

Stephen brings an all-rounded view having worked across all real estate asset classes, either as a developer, financier, investor or JV partner.
